Bentota Weather And Best Time To Visit Bentota

Planning A Trip To Bentota? Here's a snapshot of Bentota weather and the best time to visit Bentota

Located on the west coast of the island country of Sri Lanka, Bentota is one of the major tourist destinations in the region. Placed at the mouth of the River Bentota and the Indian Ocean to the west, Bentota is very humid. The temperatures though remain somewhat constant in the region, at around 27°C to 30°C given the temperate climate. The weather in Bentota is quite similar to other major coastal destinations in the south-west region of the country like Colombo and Galle. There are two monsoon seasons and inter-monsoon seasons. While the region receives rainfall for most of the year, there are a couple of dry months that allow visitors to experience the magic of this coastal town. While December to April is considered the dry season, this becomes the best time to visit Bentota.

This season usually sees the maximum amount of tourists as the rains are somewhat non-existent. The temperatures range from 27°C to 30°C; while nights are a bit cooler, the days are quite warm. The seaside location makes Bentota quite humid throughout the year. Christmas and New Year are very busy and the most expensive time of the season. The season also allows visitors to indulge in water sports and various other activities and hence is quite popular.

The dry season extends into the inter monsoon season and also sees quite a lot of tourists. The temperatures climb and the days are hot. Although nights are cooler, the humidity doesn’t make it easier. The season is also accompanied by strong winds. The Tamil and the Sri Lankan New Year fall in this season and mark a rise in the inflow of tourists. Given that the whole country is in a festive mood, this is a good time for a visit to the beach town of Bentota.

This season is marked by the heavy rainfall that the town receives. With winds coming in from Africa picking up moisture on their way, the end of April marks the arrival of the rains. The rainfall intensifies and is probably the heaviest in May. The arrival of rains means a reduction in the average temperatures but this is also the time when humidity is at its peak. While a lot of people prefer not to visit during this season, for those who don’t mind the rains, the drop in the prices of hotels and other services might come as a pleasant surprise.

Not unlike the south-western monsoon season, rainfall is rather heavy in this season. Although not as often, torrential rains are quite common. While the lingering rains make the water unsafe for any kind of activity, the temperatures drop even more and range from 24°C to 26°C. Sudden storms and heavy winds are also quite common in the region during the season. The rains though, start to recede at the beginning of December making way for the dry season.
