Alibagh is a town headquarters of the Raigad district of Maharashtra and lies on the coast of the Arabian Sea, about 92 km south of Mumbai. Raigad district is surrounded by Ratnagiri in the south, Thane in the north, Pune in the east and is bound by the Arabian sea in the west. The town is enroute Mumbai to Goa and is a hot tourist spot for people who love a weekend getaway by the lovely beaches of the western coast of India.
Renowned for its beaches, temples and ancient Forts, the historic town of Alibagh is a chosen tourist place. Alibagh is easily accessible by air, rail or road. The town’s proximity to the urban capital city of Mumbai makes travel a whole lot easy. The best way to reach Alibagh would probably be by road.

The nearest airport to Alibagh is Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport at Mumbai. The airport serves domestic flights to most cities across the country including Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Belgaum, Bengaluru, New Delhi, Bhopal, Raipur and Kolkata.
There are international flights to Bangkok, Honk Kong, Zurich, Singapore, Dubai and Kuala Lampur as well. There are prepaid cab and auto rickshaw stands near the airport. You could hire a cab to Alibagh or hop onto a bus to the coastal town with great ease.

The nearest railway stations that bear access to Alibagh are Pen that serves local train transport or Panvel that has trains coming in from across the country. Pretty soon, there would be direct trains running between Mumbai and Alibagh that would make travel easier. Panvel has trains from Goa, Patna, Surat, Udupi, Mangaluru, Gwalior etc. From Panvel you could hire a cab or book bus tickets to Alibagh.
Passenger trains and locals from Ratnagiri, Mumbai, Panvel, Roha, Chiplun and Dadar halt at Pen station. Pen station is about 30 km from Alibagh and you could board a local bus from Pen bus stand or hire an auto rickshaw to Alibagh.
By Road

Driving to Alibagh from Mumbai is probably one of the easiest ways of getting to the coastal town. You can drive to Alibagh through the Mumbai Goa Highway or through Navi Mumbai. There are buses to Alibagh from places like Dadar, Borivali or Thane. You could also travel to Panvel and board a bus to Alibagh.
There are MSRTC buses as well as private regular and A/C buses that run to Alibagh daily. Otherwise there are plenty of buses that operate from most of the major cities of Maharashtra including Pune, Kolhapur, Aurangabad, Pandarpur and Satara that serve Alibagh.
By Ferry

Another easiest and probably the most attractive way to reach Alibagh is by ferry. You could hire a ferry from the Gateway of India in South Mumbai to Mandhwa Jetty. There are A/C and regular ferries as well as speedboats that could take you to the jetty in lesser time, if you would prefer. From Mandhwa Jetty you could hire a bus or auto rickshaw to the Alibagh beach, which lies to the south of the jetty. Charges for ferries are inclusive of bus charges to the Alibagh bus depot from the Mandhwa Wharf.
Recently launched UberBoat services could also be booked for a ride from Mumbai to Mandhwa jetty. If you are planning to travel to Alibagh by two wheelers or cars, head to Bhaucha Dakka (Ferry Wharf) wherefrom ferries will transport vehicles to Alibagh. Ferry services are usually suspended during monsoons.
Getting Around

Alibagh is a small town and in favorable seasons, you could opt for taking a stroll around the township. Most tourists prefer driving to Alibagh from Mumbai and that is a good option. For longer distances, there are auto rickshaws available that could drop you off at the beaches or other touristy places of Alibagh. You could also hire bicycles for solo trips round town.
Apart from tuk tuks, there are 8-10 seater auto rickshaws as well for larger groups of people. There are taxis that can be booked for a day’s trip through local tour operators or if you have booked accommodations, the resorts will arrange for local transport services.
