Travellers who wish to visit St. Andrews from overseas can choose Glasgow International Airport or Edinburgh Airport to fly into the country. Both airports offer plenty of connections both nationally and internationally. Buses and taxis run from Edinburgh and Glasgow to St. Andrews, which is just a little under two hours away from both locations. However, Dundee Airport is closest from St. Andrews at around 24 km away, and while it doesn’t have international connections, travellers from London can fly into Dundee Airport and then catch a bus or taxi to St. Andrews.

St. Andrews does not have a train station of its own and the nearest one is located in the neighbouring town of Leuchars. The Leuchars Railway Station is situated on the East Coast mainline and links St. Andrews to London, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. St. Andrews is only ten minutes away via road from Leuchars; there are public buses and taxis available after the arrival of each train at Leuchars Railway Station and it is pretty convenient to find you way to your destination from the station.

Road routes to St. Andrews are pretty direct. There are regular buses that run from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen etc. to St. Andrews and the journey takes around 2 hours. Travellers should keep in mind that they may need to change buses in Dundee. If you plan to drive yourself from Edinburgh or Glasgow or are bringing a car, take the route M90 followed by A91 to reach St. Andrews. The roads are well made and take you through some pretty amazing scenery of Scotland; however, driving in winters should be avoided.

St. Andrews is a small and compact town that can be explored easily on foot. Travellers can simply walk to most local attractions, shops and restaurants. There are taxis available for hire as well and there are numerous buses that run to and from major tourist attractions around the neighbouring towns in the region. Visitors to St. Andrews also have the option to rent their own bike and cycle around town while exploring it.
