Maldives is a cluster of small islands in the Indian Ocean. Some of them are inhabited, while others are not. The beautiful nation is a tourist’s paradise, with vibrant coral reefs brimming with the myriad forms of underwater life (such as, whales, dolphins, sea turtles and a huge variety of fishes. Plus, there are plenty of water sports to keep you busy. It is a great honeymoon spot, and also a family vacation destination. Also, if you an adventure sports enthusiast, you will simply love Maldives. Since much of the tourism centers around water, it makes sense to visit Maldives only during the dry season.

The best time to visit Maldives is during the dry season falling between November and April. This is when the weather is perfect for sightseeing, enjoying cultural activities, water sports and of course savoring the local cuisine. Air fares and hotel tariffs are definitely higher during this time, but it is better to pay higher prices and have a good time than trying to economize by going in the off-season.

During this season, the weather is not only dry (which is good if you want to avoid the humidity) but also pleasant with moderate temperature. You can spend the entire day outdoors. But do remember, this is the peak tourist season. It will be crowded and there will be people everywhere. Make your arrangements and bookings in advance, and enjoy a pleasant stay.

The monsoon season runs from May to October, peaking around June. While it is best to stick to the dry season for visiting Maldives, you can have a good time all year round if you are not the kind that minds the rain. Even in the rainy season, you can always look forward to scuba-diving into the Indian Ocean.

During monsoons, you will have plenty of options for accommodation and you will get great deals. Many resorts offer fantastic rates as well. If you are a budget traveler, you might actually prefer this season. Just make sure you always carry an umbrella with you as it can rain quite unexpectedly. It will make sense for you to not take any unnecessary risks. Go into the water only if it is safe to do so.
