Things To Do In Langkawi

Langkawi is a stunning collection of islands on Malaysia’s west coast, fringed by a brilliant turquoise sea. It has rolls and rolls of paddy fields and dense, thick vegetation covering the mountains in the heart-land.

The land, known for its fine sand and duty free products, has a great many things to offer. It has some great diving opportunities along with luxurious yacht rides, plush stays, cable car rides, amazing shopping and breathtaking beaches.

This island has no shortage of eye-pleasing locales. If you want to set out sightseeing, there are so many places that should make your list. Like the Langkawi Sky Bridge, a marvellous man-made structure that offers the view of the whole island. Or the Eagle Square (Dataran Lang) where a larger than life eagle statue signifies the most significant folklore of Langkawi. 

Palau Payar Marine Park is a sea-lover’s paradise, with snorkelling and diving as its main attractions. You can also visit Taman Lagenda Langkawi, a unique theme park dedicated to the folklore of this island. From ogres to giants, mythical creatures to princesses, you are bound to get lost in the stories of the structures here.

Langkawi is filled with mountains and hills worth your best trekking shoes. Telaga Tuju Waterfalls itself offers a stunning 45 minute trek up to the summit; it is not for the weak hearted though. Or you can trek up to the highest peak of Langkawi, Gunung Raya, to see flying foxes, squirrels, and leaf monkeys cross your path. It goes without saying that the view from there will never leave your memories.

Take a day-trip sailing through the Andaman sea and relax in a yacht as islands pass you by. This trip starts from Awana Porto Malai jetty. You get to enjoy an open bar with a selection of sodas, juices, beer and wine. Take this tour and experience the untouched islets, unseen marine life and uncharted limestone outgrowths around the islands. There can be nothing more relaxing than a chilled drink condensing in your hand as you watch the sun set beyond the horizon.

This is a duty free island. That should be reason enough to put on your shopping shoes. You can hoard super cheap chocolates, alcohol and cigarettes from any store. From perfumes to toys, souvenirs to clothes, this is THE place to haul stuff back home. Some great duty free shopping destinations include Teow Soon Huat, The Son and The Jetty Point.

If heights and beautiful views are your thing then take the Cable Car ride up to Mt. Mat Cincang. This is one of the un-missable touristy activities of Langkawi and is sure to bring you the best photographs for your holiday album. You can see the thick, green tree-covered mountains, waterfalls, the deep, deep heart-land and the blue sea as you ride up towards the mountain. The temperatures drop as you go higher so it helps to have some sweaters handy. Once there, you can sit and watch the sunset or eat a snack from the local vendors.

This is a place believed to be the home of faeries. With all the stories wrapped around this waterfall, its majestic waters are bound to enchant you. The Telaga Tuju Waterfalls feed a group of 7 pools and make for one of the greatest picnic spots in Langkawi. You can eat some local fare, sip cool drinks and enjoy with your loved ones.
