This bridge was first constructed during the British era and later after some 100 years, it was reconstructed by the South Central Division of Indian Railways.
This bridge has become one of the most visited spots in Rajahmundry. Tourists and the locals gather around to sight the sunset which is simply breath-taking. You cannot miss taking some amazing pictures on the bridge. Moreover, a boating facility is also available. So you can take a romantic boat ride with your loved ones, especially during the sunset. If you think you have seen enough of the modern engineering marvel at the Godavari Bridge, visit Dowleswaram Barrage. This fascinating irrigation project is situated at a distance of 9 km from Rajahmundry railway station. So this one is again pretty much within the city’s proximity. Before the construction of this barrage, the locals, especially the farmers, had to face a drought-like situation during the summer season due to lack of water resources. And during the monsoon, things used to even more difficult with heavy rainfall overflooding the Godavari River causing heavy destruction.
The British Government back then commissioned the construction of a barrage to help people out and a dam was constructed. This project ensured the continuous flow of water in the summer season helping farmers and regulated the flow of the river during the monsoons. The British irrigation engineer, Sir Arthur Thomas Cotton led the project and completed this successfully. Later, the government of Andhra Pradesh made a lot of improvements to it. The view from the bridge is amazing and boating is another activity which you can try here. Another place that you should not miss visiting during your stay in Rajahmundry.
