By Air:
Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is the closest domestic airport to the valley. Located some 158 km away, visitors can take taxis or busses to and from the airport, before beginning the 16 km trek from Govindghat to the valley. Alternatively, there are helicopter services available from Dehradun to Govindghat, making it one of the best ways to travel.
By Road:
Govindghat acts as the starting point for the trek to the Valley of Flowers (16 km). It is a 10 hour drive from Dehradun, via Joshimath. However, Govindghat is well-connected to most cities in and around Uttarakhand.
By Rail:
Rishikesh Railway station is some 272 km away from Govindghat. The two locations are well connected by road, with plenty of taxis and busses available.

Monsoon (July to September):
This is the best time to visit the Valley of Flowers. The valley is in full bloom thanks to the monsoon showers, with an average temperature of 13°C to 20°C. Tourists tend to flock to the valley during these months to observe the meadows of gorgeous alpine flowers.
Summer (March to June):
The summer season is when the snow begins to melt, resulting in numerous streams being created. This is not the best time to view the valley in all of its glory. Temperatures average around 15°C to 25°C.
Winter (October to February):
From November to February the valley is embedded in snow and ice. The national parks are shut to the public during these months with temperatures dropping to sub-zero and freezing levels. The flowers and meadows are hidden to the public eye and caution is advised when venturing into the valley during these months.

Visit the Valley of Flowers National Park:
A world heritage site, the national park is filled blooms of alpine flowers, stretching as far as the eye can see. The recommended time to visit is anywhere between June and August. The monsoon season is when the park can be enjoyed in all its glory.
Visit Nanda Devi National Park:
From June to October the park becomes home to some of the rarest and most unique wildlife in the country, with opportunities to spot everything from butterflies to snow leopards and black bears.
Hemkund Sahib:
Some 4329 m above sea-level, this is another popular tourist attraction in the area and is home to Gurudwara Shri Hemkund Sahib. The temple can be reached through a charming trek that is an extremely pious spot for the Sikh community. June to October is the best time to visit.
Hemkund Lake:
Popularly known as the Lake of Snow, this lake is situated next to the Hemkund Sahib temple and is frequented as part and parcel of this gorgeous area. Thousands of visitors travel far and wide to enjoy the natural beauty of this lake, with the Himalayan ranges in the backdrop.

Valley of Flowers isn’t really a shopper’s ideal destination, but visitors can try their luck for some souvenirs at the Alaknanda and Valley of Flowers Markets. There are however a couple of leather shoe and bag stores that might be worth checking out in Alaknanda Market.
Food

Ghangaria is the closest destination for visitors looking to enjoy some food. Although options are limited, there are some hotels and restaurants in the area serving different cuisines at reasonable prices. When venturing out on daily treks or camping outdoors, visitors are advised to carry dehydrated foods like nuts, berries etc. These foods are nutritious and easy to carry.
