Badrinath is a tourist hub (one of the Char Dham or four pilgrimages) fixed in the background of the Neelkanth Peak devoted to Lord Vishnu. Badrinath is on an altitude in the Himalayas and experiences snowfall for majority of the year, making it a very cold destination. However, the recommended best time to visit Badrinath is from May to June and additionally, from September to October. This is simply because, the best weather can be experienced from May to June.

The end of October signals the end of sightseeing and religious journeys to Badrinath. Heavy snowfall and snowstorms lead to all the roads closing down for safety measures. This continues until April, with the roads bedded in ice and weather dropping to sub-zero level. Therefore winter time visits to Badrinath are discouraged. Please note, the Badrinath temple is generally closed to the public from April to November during the winter months.

Summertime in Badrinath is the idyllic weather to tick off this destination from your list. Despite being summer, it is recommended to stay well-clad under layers of wool and thermal to stay insulated, as the temperature drifts amid 18 - 20°C. Tourists usually swarm the area in this period. With snowfall decreasing, most visitors can go about their day relatively normally, making it the best time to visit Badrinath. The Badrinath Temple opens its gates to devotees in the peak of summer, on the day of Akshay Tritiya (usually falling in April-end or May).

July sees chilly days and windy nights, which is decent enough weather for exploration. However, caution is advised as heavy showers bring landslides with them during these months. August is a relatively warm month. September is when the heat starts reducing, with sporadic showers. The weather is around 5 – 15° C.
