The months of summer bring a lot of joy and happiness to the locals and tourism is at an all-time high. There are many outdoor festivities that occur, keeping people occupied in a lot of fun-filled leisurely activities, especially during weekends. The average temperature during the summer is 26° with lows of 14°. Since Biel/Bienne is surrounded by lakes, it is the perfect time for a lot of water-related activities including boating, paddle-boarding, kayaking and swimming.

 

The week-long, open-air, free-for-all festival takes place in June every year. The Bieler Braderie street fair also takes place in June. Pod'Ring is a summer festival held in July every year in Biel's old town area. Kaléidoscope is an art festival held from July to September each year. The Big Bang Festival occurs on 31st July every year, bringing in the Swiss National Day with fireworks, good food and live music. This continues onto the Lakelive festival in early August.

While September still experiences a good amount of warm climate, it can get quite cold by October and November. The average temperature of the season is 15°C with lows of 7°C. The colours of fall make the landscapes quite beautiful and serene. It can rain up to 8 days in a month. Tourism (especially in September) is still quite buzzing, so you may need to plan your bookings well in advance to get good deals.

 

The Alpine descent is a festival in celebration of the cows coming home from the alpine pastures, which takes place every year in October with a lot of food and entertainment. The Trüelete wine festival also takes place in October in the town of Twann.

Biel/Bienne is a white-wonderland during winters. The average day temperature experienced during the winters is 4°C with lows of -1°C. So for people who want to experience snow, winter-sport activities and in general love the cold weather, will certainly enjoy their holiday in Biel/Bienne during this season. It can snow/rain for about 6 to 10 days in a month. Tourism is quite slow due to the weather and many hotels/activities are shut down, so plan your holiday accordingly.

 

The Cantonale Berne Jura is an art exhibition that is held between December and January each year. Christmas & New Year is celebrated in high spirits. Apart from that, there are no other annual events.
