Hampi is predominantly a historical zone which involves a lot of sightseeing and exploring around the scattered ruins and monumental structures. It has been listed as one of the best sites to see in the world by UNESCO and makes for an awesome, education trip at any time of the year. Though the weather in Hampi does play a deciding factor and the best time to visit the ruins of Hampi falls between October and February. It is winter at this time and the weather’s really good for a wander around the heritage site.

Hampi is hot and a little uncomfortable during summer. Exploration around the ruins involoves a lot of walking around the rocks, clambering up boulders and bicycling. And a hot day might certainly put a dampener on it. Temperature levels range from 27°C to a hot 37°C.Do make sure you carry water bottles, put on sunglasses and keep hats handy.

Monsoon (June-September)

Hampi’s ruins lie on the banks of the Tungabhadra River and its dam. So you can expect a heavy to moderate rainfall, with a possibility of a river flood. Carry umbrellas and a raincoat and watch your step on the slippery rocks during monsoon. You can go sightseeing if the weather’s good for the day, for the rains do make the land around the ruins lush and beautiful, worth a visit. But if it rains heavily then most outdoor plans need to be cancelled. All in all, not the best to to visit Hampi.

The season turns good for a trip post monsoon. The weather’s warm and pleasant, with a gentle breeze and with occasional drizzle from the northeast monsoon winds. It’s an ideal time to explore with a camera handy, for the ruins, with the backdrop of a beautiful warm misty sky, pose as a great picture.

Winter in Hampi is dry and pleasantly warm. You don’t have to worry about the rains nor the scorching sun. The recent rains have washed away all that heat and dust and everything looks so lush and squeaky clean. It’s the idyllic time to amble among the ruins and even go on a coracle ride on the river. Nights are cold, so get some warm night clothes ready! This is definitely the best season to visit Hampi.
