Hajipur has its origins in the Mahabharata. Evidently this was where democracy first found its feet in around 600 BC and it was here that the ancient republic of Licchavi was established. Lord Mahavira was born here while Lord Buddha delivered the last of his sermons at Hajipur and also declared his Parinirvana. An old city Hajipur has several interesting sites to see. The best way to reach Hajipur is to fly to Patna airport which is just 30 km away and thereafter take a taxi to reach your location in Hajipur.
