Agartala is the capital city of Tripura and the Agartala Airport or Maharaja Bir Bikram Aiport is the domestic airport located in the state about 12 km northwest of the city. After Guwahati, Tripura is the busiest airport in the northeast and gives crucial air access to the far flung areas and districts. A proposal has been floated to upgrade it to an International Airport. Agartala is fairly well connected by flights with cities like Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Guwahati and others.
