Kalimpong is a quaint little hill station located at the foothills of the Himalayas in the northern part of West Bengal. Well connected with the capital city of Kolkata and other parts of the country make Kalimpong an oft visited tourist destination. It is a favorite of the people of Kolkata who make frequent trips to the town to escape the heat all through the year. As it is surrounded by hills, Kalimpong can be visited throughout the year but the best time to visit is from March to May and from September to December, with its weather wonderful for holidaying.

Indian subcontinent generally has 3 seasons: summer, monsoon and winter unlike the west that enjoys a beautiful spring and autumn. Kalimpong experiences spring for two months and it is delightful. Temperatures rise but never go beyond 24°C. Trees start flowering, skies remain crystal clear and tourists are treated to a magnificent view of the Kanchenjunga and Himalayan ranges. Summer in Kalimpong lasts for about 2 months and temperatures never go beyond 30°C mark. In fact they hover between 16°C and 25°C accompanied by a pleasant breeze. Summers are quite comfortable here and are actually the peak season as people from the south part of the state struggling with heat and humidity seek refuge here. Most hotels are booked in advance and if you are planning to visit during these months remember to book months before to avoid disappointments. It receives some amount of rains during these months; June is mostly cloudy but nobody is complaining.

As a hill station Kalimpong receives fair amount of rainfall during the monsoon months. Heavy rainfall is accompanied by landslides which cut off routes in the region. Tourists are generally recommended not visit during these months as they could get caught in a landslide and also not much sightseeing ca be done. Some prefer to go just to witness the rains in the hills and the lush greenery everywhere.
Autumn (October to November)

Unlike most tourist destinations in India, Kalimpong enjoys a beautiful Autumn. Monsoon recedes, the sky becomes clear and radiant and those beautiful dazzling snow-capped peaks become visible. It is a fascinating spectacle. It is one of the best times to visit Kalimpong. Monsoon rains leave a freshness behind that is extremely appealing. Temperature varies between 11°C and 22°C.
Winter (December to February)

Winter in a hill station close to the Himalayas is bound to be chilly. Temperature ranges between 7°C and 16°C and the chill in the air feels good.
