Planning A Trip To Puri? Here's a snapshot of Puri weather and the best time to visit Puri

One of the most famous pilgrimage sites in India, Puri is a municipality located in the eastern coastal state of Orissa that holds tremendous religious significance among the Hindu devotees. It is one of the Chaar Dhaams of Hinduism, and is believed to have enormous value for those trying to achieve spiritual salvation. Among the numerous temples and religious monuments in this city, the Jagannath Temple is responsible for driving majority of visitors to Puri.

Located along the Bay of Bengal, the weather of Puri is also largely influenced by the sea. While it is visited by devotees and tourists alike all year round for both religious and vacation purposes, some months fare better than others. Detailed below is an account on the best times to visit Puri.

Summers may not be the best time to visit Puri, since the weather in these months is predominantly hot and humid, with average temperatures that can reach up to a maximum of 45ᴼC during the day time in peak summer months. For those who do plan a trip to Puri in these months, be sure to pack light cotton clothing with lots of sun block; it is also advisable to limit all outdoor activities to the evenings, which are relatively more pleasant. The numerous resorts and hotels can be a great place to hang out during the afternoons, which feature a number of options to keep cool in the intense heat.

Monsoons in Puri are not a good time to visit. There is heavy rainfall during these months characterized by frequent thunderstorms. While the rain does bring down the temperature considerably after the blistering heat of summers, the weather still remains unpredictable enough to discourage even locals from going out too much. However, due to the famous Chariot Festival, or Rath Yatra that takes place in the month of June and July, devotees still flock to the city to be a part of the religious celebrations.
