One such historic place is the Barah Shaheed Dargah. It's a beautiful mausoleum or a Dargah (shrine) of Barah (twelve) Shaheed (martyrs) who were believed to have sacrificed their lives fighting on the battlefield. At about 3 km from Nellore city center, it is one of the oldest temples in the town constructed on the Southern bank of the Pennar River. The temple has its own history and significance as it's said that sage Kasyapa performed a Yagna here. After the successful completion of Yagna, Shri Vishnu appeared before him. Considering this, The Pallavi King built a temple here during the 7th and 8th centuries. A 9-foot long statue of Ranganatha is installed inside the temple which can be seen in a reclining position. The idol is faced towards the Pennar River and you can see the names of the Lord printed here on the outer walls.

Penchalakona Temple is located at a distance of 15 km from Nellore Railway Station. There are two primary temples here Vedagiri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy and Mahalakshmi temples. At a distance of 65 km from Nellore lies the Kandeleru Dam. It's a significant irrigation project constructed on the Kandaleru River. The project is the biggest earthen dam in the world with a water storage capacity of 68 TMC spreading across an area of 10 sq km. This important dam is responsible for supplying drinking water to the city of Chennai the Srisailam reservoir on Krishna River as part of the Telugu Ganga project. It's well connected by a State Highway that connects Kadapa with Nellore through Rajampet and Rapur. This river originates in Velegonda hills and flows across Gudur.
