Arrive at Srinagar and ask for a transfer to Houseboat. It is true that you can never get enough of Srinagar so stay here for two days. Reserve your arrival day for some local sightseeing while at night you can stay in the houseboat. Morning is the best time to visit Mughal Gardens, Nishat Bagh and the Chashme Shahi Bagh.

While you’re in Srinagar, you must visit the Dal Lake. Remember those Bollywood songs pictured on ‘shikaras’? Ever wanted to be a part of those fairy-tale like songs? Well, your honeymoon is undoubtedly the time for you to live all those aspirations of yours. Organize a river cruise ride for yourself on a shikara and make the moment last forever. The food connoisseurs would love to relish the flavours of local Kashmiri or Mughlai food and barbecues located alongside the Dal Lake. You can also take leisurely strolls during the evenings or just sit across the lake and drench up the serenity enveloping it.

Well known for golf courses and picturesque Alpather lake, Gulmarg is a must in your Kashmir honeymoon itinerary.  The mountainous lake Alpather remains almost frozen till late June and many people flock here for a skiing session around that time. It is also easy to rent out snow scooters and sledges here. Once you’re at Gulmarg, it’s completely up to you to take a horse ride or simply enjoy the panoramic view of snow-covered mountains. The religious lot would also like to visit the popular shrine of Baba Reshi, a Muslim mystic saint, who is well known among people from all faiths. Popular as the ‘beginner’s skiing resort’, Gulmarg gives you much more than just silent beauty to admire.

Situated on the banks of the Jhelum River, Pahalgam also known as the Village of Sheperds, makes for an interesting stopover in Kashmir. While you’re here, you can spend some time on the banks and watch the sunset as the wild waves tease the shores of the river. You can indulge in Horse Riding at Baisaran which is a magnificent plain. Alternatively, you can find some interesting options for trekking too.

Day 5 and 6: Pahalgam to Sonamarg (175kms, 4 hours)

If both of you are fond of adventurous activities then there is nothing better than Sonamarg for it is widely popular for undertaking trekking expeditions. When you’re done admiring the beauty of Kashmir, it’s time for you to do indulge in something different.

On completing a week in Kashmir return back to Srinagar for Srinagar still has something unexplored and untouched to offer you. To complete your Kashmir honeymoon, it is recommended that you take a day out to indulge in shopping. Buy Kashmir carpets and products made of Kashmir goat wool. You can buy decorative materials made of Papier Mache and you can also try your hands at some nice jewellery. It is always good to bargain a little when you’re at the local shops. Bhat Shawls at Gagribal Lane is wonderful place to buy embroidered bags. You can check out shawls, kurtas and other fabrics too.

Once you’re done shopping, go for a romantic dinner to end your Kashmir honeymoon on a wonderful note. Spend the night at your hotel and check out the next morning.
