Bilbao is the largest Basque City in Spain. The city is characterized by stunning natural landscapes, impeccable cuisine and left of center architecture highlighted by the Frank Gehry created Guggenheim Museum. The city is equally easy to reach by either air, road or rail. Visitors travelling internationally are best advised to travel by air, landing at Bilbao International Airport. The roadways present the best way for visitors to get into the city locally. There are several efficient services for visitors to choose from. Getting around the city can also be harder than it looks. Due to the hilly landscape, catching a bus or taxi is the best bet.

Bilbao International Airport is situated 12 km outside the heart of the city and about a 15-minute journey. This is the best and most convenient way for international visitors to reach the city. The airport is well-connected to majority of the neighboring cities in and around Spain as well as other European locations. The A3247 Bus route connects the airport to the city as well. Visitors flying from India will have fly to Bilbao via Madrid or Barcelona.

This is the best way to reach for local travelers. Spain has a fantastic highway network and Bilbao is no different. Both taxis and busses are available from all major airports and stations in and around the city. The Termibus Bus Station in the heart of the city is connected to all major tourist destinations by both private and public bus networks. For visitors travelling by car the AP-68 highway connects to the city via Barcelona. There are also a multitude of taxi services available.

Bilbao-Abando Station is the focal point for travel via Renfe trains in the city. The station is the closest to the city center and is well-connected to majority of the other Spanish cities and other European ones as well. There are both long and short distance trains available for visitors to choose from and tickets can be purchased either online or offline.

It can be a bit tricky to get around the hilly areas of Bilbao that tend to be separate by large distances. Visitors renting cars or taxis should be fine. There day passes called Barik Cards that can be used for the local bus and train services, excluding the Renfe trains. These are available from the airport or any Metro stations.
