Gwalior is situated on the North-South corridor of the National Express Highway Project (Golden Quadrilateral). There are frequent buses available to get to Gwalior from Agra. These buses follow the National Highway 3 that connects Agra to Mumbai. In addition, National Highway 75 connects Gwalior to Jhansi, and National Highway 92 links the city to the town of Bhongaon in Uttar Pradesh. The road trip from Agra to Gwalior takes about an hour and the corresponding time from Delhi is about three hours and forty-five minutes. There are various transport services available to and from most towns near Gwalior, including Bhopal, Jabalpur, Agra, Delhi, Jhansi, Bhind, Morena, Datia and Indore.

Gwalior is a crucial railway junction in the Northern central region. The Gwalior Junction (Station Code: GWL) is one of the very few places where both narrow gauge and broad gauge railway tracks are functional. The railway station is located in the central area of the city and is well connected to all major towns and cities in India. The junction also won an award for the best and cleanest station of the North Central Railway Zone. Direct trains are available every day from New Delhi, Agra, Kolkata, Varanasi, and Allahbad to reach Gwalior. Agra, Jhansi, Etawah, and Shivpuri are the closest railway stations. Reservations are available online through the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation website.

The Gwalior airport, also known as the Rajamata Vijaya Raje Scindia Airport, is situated at a distance of 8 km from the centre of the city. Booking a flight to Gwalior from any major city across India is hassle-free and simple. Multiple airlines connect Gwalior to major cities, uncovering a world of many new and historical attractions for tourists. Air tickets can be acquired on direct and indirect flights from cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Jaipur. The airport also houses an Indian Air Force Base. Air India provides airline services to get to Gwalior from Delhi and Mumbai, however, flights are not available daily. The Jabalpur airport is also connected to the junction through Air India Regional.

Getting around Gwalior is easy thanks to the many easily available public transport systems. Municipal Corporation of Gwalior runs City Buses on selected routes across Gwalior. You should be able to find a bus stop around you to access these buses with relative ease. Tempos and Auto rickshaws are the most common mode of transport in Gwalior and are available everywhere. Online cab services such as Ola are also gaining popularity and are a convenient option for local travel. You can also get cars or bikes on rent from one of the many rental services in the city for hassle-free travel.
