How To Reach Khajuraho
Planning A Trip To Khajuraho? Here are some guidelines on how to reach Khajuraho
Khajuraho is located in MPs Chhatarpur district around 620 km south-east of New Delhi. This is one of the most important cities in the area because of its chequered history and beautiful monuments that go back to the days of the Chandela dynasty in the period between 970 and 1030 AD. Most of the monuments (temples really) were built during the reign of the kings Yashovarman and Dhanga. These temples were in use actively throughout the 12th century. However, subsequently there were attacks by the Moghuls from the Delhi Sultanate who captured the Chandela kingdom. During the rule of the Muslim raiders several temples were razed to the ground while the remaining were neglected. There were 85 temples at one time while today there are only about twenty five temples and these are spread over an area of about 6 sq. km.
There is a lot to see and do in Khajuraho which is today a heritage UNESCO site. The best way to reach Khajuraho is by air although there are other options as well.

It is better to travel by train to Satna Station and from there take a taxi to Khajuraho which is 114 km, a distance that may take around 2h 40m to cover. Several major trains stop at Satna. However, it is added that travel by rail to Satna and then by taxi to Khajuraho is not the best option to reach Khajuraho.
