Named after the famous warrior queen, Jhansi is surely one of the most beautiful cities in Uttar Pradesh. The place is known firstly because of Rani of Jhansi. Rani Laxmi Bai, as she was known, took over the reign of the kingdom after the death of her husband and was ultimately martyred on 17th June 1858 while fighting the British at Gwalior. Tales of her valour are well known all over the country. It was she who fought the first struggle of independence in India in 1858, one year after the famous Sepoy Mutiny.
There are several places to visit, in Jhansi as well as things to do there. The best way to reach Jhansi is by train although there are other means to reach Jhansi as well. For visitors from outside India it is advisable to fly to Delhi and then take one of the direct trains to Jhansi, a distance 440 km away by train which is covered in 3h 34m.

There are two airports near Jhansi. Gwalior is 102 km away from Jhansi while Khajuraho is 150 km away. Gwalior is well connected by air with the major cities in the country. Gwalior is also connected with Jhansi through NH 75. There is a bus service with Jhansi as well. Although Khajuraho has air connectivity with cities in India, it is advisable to take a flight to Gwalior and then go by road to Jhansi.

Jhansi is well connected by road with the rest of the country. One can drive via NH52 from Mumbai, a distance of over 1000 km in about 19 hr. The road drive from Delhi will take around 9 hr. The distance is about 478 km and one may drive on the Taj Express Highway and NH44.

Jhansi is well connected by rail with the rest of the country. For rail travel between Mumbai and Jhansi one can catch one of the 19 trains that run every week to cover the distance of just over 1110 km. If you wish to travel to Jhansi from Delhi there are 5 Rajdhani trains, 2 Shatabdi trains, 3 Duronto trains and a total of 39 Superfast trains. The rail distance is 440 km away.

One can get around in Jhansi using public buses run by the UP Government, tempos and auto-rickshaws. All of these are easily available and cheap on the pocket. You can also hire a car for your personal use, and they usually come on per-day basis for sightseeing tours.
