Mawsynram does not have its own airport; Shillong Airport, also known as Umroi Airport, is the nearest airspace from this town. Situated around 86 km away from Mawsynram, Shillong Airport connects Mawsynram to major cities across India through both direct and connecting flights. A scenic road trip of around 3 hours will take you to Mawsynram from Shillong through private taxis or buses that can be availed from the airport itself. Some travellers may even prefer to fly into Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport in Guwahati, Assam, instead of Shillong for more options with direct flights across the country. Guwahati Airport is situated around 170 km from Mawsynram and road journeys to the town from the airport take around 5 hours.

There are no rail lines in the state of Meghalaya and the nearest railway station is located all the way in Guwahati, Assam, about 150 km away. Travellers who aren’t fond of flying can choose to catch a train to Guwahati Railway Station instead and then take a car or bus to reach Mawsynram. The entire journey takes a little over 4 hours, and is worth every second. The lush scenery, the hills and sprouting waterfalls, everything just gives you a trailer for what is to come.

Travellers coming in from Cherrapunji will need to take a detour at Mawngap en route to Shillong; the distance is about 80 km and it takes just under 3 hours to reach Mawsynram.
