Omkaareshwar is a religious town located 77km from Indore in MP. According to the scriptures this town is in continued habitation as a holy place since at least 5500 years. From the 10th till the 13th century AD this place was under the Parmar rulers and then the Chauhan Rajputs. During the 18th century it came under the Marathas during which time several temples were either built new or renovated. It was under the British rule till India became independent. The weather in Omkareshwar is extremely exhausting and hot in summer. During the monsoon however, this place gets rejuvenated. The best time to visit Omkareshwar is the winter. These aspects are dealt with in the succeeding paragraphs.
Summer (March-May)

The summer is very hot and uncomfortable in Omkareshwar. Visitors will find the place trying and exhausting in these heated months. The temperature frequently reaches around 40°C in this period, and it also leads to some heat waves that leave you with nothing to do but hide away in your room. A visit to this place during the summer season is definitely not recommended.
Monsoon (June-September)

The monsoon season in this place starts in the month of June and it lasts till September. The rains are both rejuvenating and invigorating. The place starts cooling down and prepares the residents for the winter.
Winter (December-February)

The winter in this place approaches in December and trails off in February. This is the best season for visitors since it is pleasant and cool with temperature dipping to 15°C. The best months to visit are between September and March really because not only is the weather conducive then but this is also the festive period. The Mahashivratri falls between February-March while Ganesh Chaturthi is in August-September. The Anant Chaudas is celebrated in the month of September. All these festivals are celebrated with fervour in Omkareshwar.
