Situated at the heart of the Himalayas, Kullu is known for its extra-ordinary scenic beauty contributed by its mountainscapes, birds, butterflies and various flora. The perfect way to experience it in all it's glory is by visiting the Great Himalayan National Park. A trek here could reveal the numerous species that calls the place home. The park is most known for its Snow Leopards, himalayan brown bear and himalayan tahrs.

 

Despite the cool air that prevails Kullu there is always one place thats steaming hot. Deep in Parvati Valley you will find the Manikaran Hot Spring. It is believed that the holy waters of the hot spring have healing properties. To enhance the spiritual experience you can visit the Gurudwara here which is known for its ornate architecture as well as the food they serve.

 

Chandrakhani Pass is another place to visit. From up here you can catch a good view of Kullu, its valleys and forests. The pass over-looks Deo Tibba and Pir Panjal and a trek to the pass will take you through many villages. This is a good way of understanding the life and culture of the local people of Kullu. 

 

The temples of Kullu are just as famous as the deodar forests and its magnificent orchards. The 17th century Raghunath Temple, Vaisno Devi Mandir, Bijli Mahadev Temple are a few such examples. Kullu is an important pilgrimage site and every year many travelers can be seen paying their respects at the different temples. Embrace the breath-taking views that won’t fail to amaze you as you wander through the lush green groves among the plethora of flora and fauna. While most of the trek routes are long and can range from a whole day to a week, you will also find some beginner friendly routes. Tirthan Valley Trek offers a spectacular view of the mountains and will take you through  refreshing streams and waterfalls. Another popular choice among trekkers is the Saurkundi Pass. The trek takes you through high meadows and all the way up to the serene Saurkundi Lake. For more adventurous people there is the trek to Deo Tibba Base Camp which is quite an experience. The trek will take you through different terrains, from flowering meadows to snow covered landscapes.

Bicycles were introduced in the 19th century and can be a very resourceful mode of transportation for short distances, but on the mountainside it takes on a very different role. It is the best way to gallivant Kullu especially if you’re interested in a more exciting adventure. You may rent a bicycle from Manu Temple Road, Manali for around 10 hours, starting from 9’o clock in the morning till 7 in the evening.

You can glide along the silver snow with the help of guides if you’re a beginner. Kullu is the ideal place for skiing and snow gliding, with the perfect climate for outdoor activities and surrounded by Deodar and Cedar forests that enhance its beauty. For beginners it is advisory to hire a professional skier. The best place for beginners is Solang Valley. It has introductory slopes with smooth curved ranges and gentle pitches. Whereas for professionals, the challenging slopes of Deo Tibba, Rohtang Pass and Hanuman Tibba are the perfect destinations. The best season for skiing is from January to March. There are also many Skiing and Snow Boarding packages available on a daily or weekly basis.

Paragliding

Paragliding can't get any better than it does in Kullu. An aerial view of the meadows and the coniferous forests add to the experience. The organizers provide the necessary equipment and send a guide to give you instructions. You will receive about half an hour of flying time to soar over the mountain tops. The area around the Beas River is one of the most popular spots for paragliding due to the altitude and the scenic beauty. Kothi and Solang Valley are other glide-able locations you can try in Kullu. 

River Rafting

Right on par with paragliding is the adrenaline inducing sport of River Rafting. The grand River Beas is one of the best river rafting spots in the country, with its numerous rapids and challenging waters. The rafting trip can be 3 kilometers to 15 kilometers long, depending on your requirements and can accommodate about four people in a raft.  Having the chilled water of the river splash on you as you meander through the beautiful scenery of Kullu is an experience worth having.
