Chail is a beautiful hill station located at a distance of 63 km from Shimla in the Shivalik range of Himachal Pradesh and was also the summer capital of the princely state of Patiala. This hill station covers an area of 72 acres and spreads over the hillocks of Rajgarh, Pandewa and Sadh Tib, offering its visitors spectacular panoramic views of the countryside that overlook Kasauli and Shimla. This quaint hill station was transformed from a small mountain village to a summer capital in 1839 by Bhupinder Singh, the Maharaja of Patiala.

 

Being close to Shimla, Chail is an equally popular place for tourists due to its picturesque beauty and serene atmosphere. Since Chail is renowned amongst tourists, reaching the place ad getting around is fairly easy. You can travel to this pristine part of the north by air, road and rail or if you are already in Shimla, the toy train can directly take you to Chail. Flying to Chail may be the most convenient way to travel, but going by road will build memories of sites that are simply unforgettable.

By Air

Going to Chail by air is the most convenient way to travel and also saves a lot of time. The nearest airport to this beautiful hill station is the Jubarhatti Airport located in Shimla, which is situated at a distance of 72 km. You can also take a flight to the Chandigarh International Airport, depending on the route that is going to be travelled. Prime airlines like Indigo, Air India, Spice Jet connect both Jabarhatti Airport and Chandigarh International Airport to major cities in India. Once you land, there are ample busses and taxis that can be taken to reach Chail.

By Road

If you are a travel fanatic, a trip on wheels to the north is one of the most spectacular things to do. There are three routes that you can take to reach this serene hilltop. If you are travelling from Delhi or Chandigarh, the most common way to travel is via Kandaghat, the other way is travelling via Shimla and Kufri and the third route is the one that goes through Solan. There are a few more roads that will take you to Chail, but the ones mentioned above are the most common ones. There are several busses that ply from cities in the north to Chail or you can even take a luxury bus from Delhi.

By Rail

The closest station to Chail is located at a distance of 81 km from the hill station and is known as Kalka Railway Station. There are a number of trains like the Himalayan Queen, Kalka mail, Kalka Shatabdi and Paschim Express, that connect this tiny town to various other cities in India. Connectivity of trains from the south of India is not very frequent to the Kalka Railway Station, hence, you would have to take a train to Chandigarh Railway station instead. The Dehradun Express runs on selective days and connects Chandigarh and Chennai.

Getting around Chail is simpler than you would think it is. You can find taxi services available from 7 AM to 9 PM, which are easy on the pocket and comfortable for sightseeing; you can even rent cabs from travel agents who might give you a good deal. There are a few busses for tourists, run by Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation for the convenience of commuting around. Other than this, walking to places that are close by is a good way to enjoy and adore the scenery of Chail.
