Patnitop does not have an airport of its own and is nearest to the Jammu Airport which is locally known as Satwari Airport and officially as the Jammu Civil Enclave Airport. One can easily avail flights from several cities in India like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkatta, Chennai amongst many others, that fly directly to the Jammu airport. Airlines such as Indigo, Spice Jet, Air India and Go Air fly to Jammu And Kashmir. The distance from the Jammu airport to Patnitop is approximately 110 km and takes almost 4 hrs to reach by road. You may book a taxi online, prior to reaching the airport or taxis which are easily available at the airport to reach your destination.

One can both choose to drive through the picturesque scenery of the hilly terrain or simply sit back and enjoy the journey by hiring a cab or traveling by bus. There are a number of cab operators and bus services plying to Patnitop from the major cities in India. It may take approximately 2-5 days to reach Patnitop, depending on which part of the country you start your journey from, number of stopovers, climate etc. Driving for long hours can be tiring; hence, the best thing to do is to hire a cab or a driver who is accustomed to the rugged and uneven terrain of the north.

The railways is probably the best option to travel to Patnitop in terms of it being cost effective, comfortable as well as having the liberty of enjoying the scenic beauty around. There is no direct train to Patnitop and the nearest railway stations are located in Udhampur and Jammu (Jammu Tawi) which are 47 km and 61 km from the hill station respectively. One can reach these stations by taking a train from their respective cities.

Getting around in this quaint hill station can be done by foot. If you have to travel for long distances, hiring a cab may be the best option. There are a number of cab services that offer packages and affordable car rentals to go around sightseeing in and around Patnitop. Other than that, horse riding or pony riding is very popular amongst tourists as well, especially if you are in an area where the terrain is not motorable.
