By Bus

There are many options available at different prices for those considering going to Sikkim on bus. One could choose between Volvo A/C Semi sleeper or A/C Multi-Axle Semi sleeper. If you don’t want to pay the higher prices, you can even go with the government buses. The closest bus depots are in Siligui and Darjeeling and the journey would not take more than a few hours. Rest assured that you would thoroughly enjoy the scenic route.

By Train

There are no railway stations in the state of Sikkim. Although, there is one in New Jalpaiguri (NJP) and Siliguri just 125 kms and 114 kms from Gangtok respectively. Both NJP and Siliguri are very well connected to the rest of the country. From here you can simply hire a taxi or take a bus which will ferry you to Gangtok in roughly 4 hours.

By Air

The nearest air terminal is Bagdogra Airport, about 124 kms. from Gangtok town. Flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and all other big cities connect this part of the country fairly well. From Bagdogra Airport hire a taxi, to get to Gangtok in just 4 hours. Bagdogra is additionally linked with Gangtok by helicopters. The Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation operates daily flights that take just 20 minutes to reach Gangtok from Bagdogra. This helicopter administration is of course subject to climate conditions.

Sikkim Nationalised Transport or SNT which was established in 1944 is the most popular form of public transport here. The bus service is widely connected to Kalimpong, Gangtok, Darjeeling and Siliguri. Local auto rickshaws are also available almost everywhere. This mode of transportation is fast, cheap and convenient. Also, most of the auto-rickshaw drivers are aware of the routes and could help you visit the coveted tourist destinations. Besides buses and autos, one could also hire a taxi to go around town.
