Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh is an ancient city that lies on the shores of the river Narmada, a river that is considered holy. It was the capital for the Kings of the Gond in the 12^thcentury and later Jabalpur became the seat for the Kalchuri dynasty. The Marathas came next and held on to the city till the British took it away and made it a cantonment. The city is a sprawling industrial city with diverse defence manufacturing units.
