Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh is an ancient city that lies on the shores of the river Narmada, a river that is considered holy. It was the capital for the Kings of the Gond in the 12thcentury and later Jabalpur became the seat for the Kalchuri dynasty. The Marathas came next and held on to the city till the British took it away and made it a cantonment. The city is a sprawling industrial city with diverse defence manufacturing units. It has two universities as well, the Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University and the Rani Durgavati University with some thirty colleges.
