Bir is a small village in the northern state of Himachal Pradesh, located in the west of Joginder Nagar Valley. This little hilltop is located at an altitude of 1525 m and is home to several Buddhist stupas and monasteries, which makes the place serene and secluded. You can reach Bir by taking a plane, a train or by simply taking a road trip and driving up there. Direct flights and trains do not ply to small town; however, you can reach Bir by travelling to neighbouring airports and railways stations. Alternatively, you can drive up to Bir or even take a bus.

By Air

Bir is located at a high altitude due to which there is no direct flight connectivity to the town. Since there is no direct airport in Bir, one has to travel to the nearest airport which is at a distance of 68 km, known as the Kangra airport in Dharamshala. Major airlines like Air India, Spice Jet and Go Air frequently fly to this airport from various other cities in the country. Once you reach the airport, you can take a cab or a bus from the premises of the airport to get to your destination in Bir. Alternatively, you can also travel to the Delhi airport and then travel by road to Bir. The airways are the fastest way to reach Bir.

A number of national highways are connected to Bir, making it easy for people to travel by road. Bir is situated in the foothills of the Himalayas, which makes it a very picturesque village. Hence, taking a road trip to such a beautiful place is one of the best ways to get to Bir. Depending on the state you are driving from and the stops that are being taken, it takes anywhere between 2-5 days to reach Bir. You can also take a bus from Dharamshala or Palampur. Overnight busses are also available from the Inter State Bus Terminal in Delhi, but they might take longer to reach.

There are no straight trains to Bir due to it being on a high altitude. Although the Ahju Railway station, located at a distance of 3 km from the village is the closest railways station, not many trains ply from major cities and they aren’t very frequent either. Therefore, the closest train station that ais frequented by trains coming from different cities is the Pathankot Railway station, which is at a distance of 143 km from Bir. You can take a cab or a bus from Pathankot to go to Bir.

You can move around this beautiful village by hiring private cabs that will comfortably take you sightseeing to different places. These cabs can be easily found in the Upper Bir bus stand and the Tibetan Colony. Busses ply on the north-south Bir road quite frequently, which can be taken to get around as well. Alternatively, you can also move around on foot to explore the place more intricately or you can choose to ride horseback, which is very convenient on the narrow roads of Bir.
