How To Reach Lisbon

Planning A Trip To Lisbon? Here are some guidelines on how to reach Lisbon

Lisbon is the capital city of Portugal, made up of seasides and gulls, red-roofed buildings and some beautifully old neighbourhoods. Here, you get a blend of both worlds, which has made this city a hotspot for tourism in Southern Europe. If you are eager to plan a trip to Lisbon, here’s how to reach the city from anywhere in the world. Planes are the fastest and easiest, but the roads from Spain to Portugal are also worth pondering.

Lisbon Portela Airport is where all international traffic lands in Lisbon, coming in from all over Europe, the world and India. It is not such a big airport, with 2 sets of runways and terminals, but is good enough to service you. Located 6 km away from the city centre, you can easily catch a cab from the airport, opt to board a bus or a metro. From India, you can fly to Lisbon from Mumbai as well as Delhi and Chennai pretty easily too.

As mentioned above, the roads to Portugal from Spain are wonderful, and filled with beautiful sceneries of the South of Europe. What more could you want from a road trip? Trains are a highly preferred means of transport around Portugal. Since Portugal only shares land borders with Spain, you can also take a train from Spain to the capital city of Lisbon. An overnight train will make sure you leave Madrid by night and open your eyes in Lisbon. 10 hours straight. The main station is Santa Apolónia station of Lisbon and it receives domestic as well as international trains.

Lisbon has some great pubic transport to help you get around, from metro trains to buses to ancient trams. There are taxis that you can hail or app-based cabs that you can call. Aerobus and Carris Bus service are local providers to help you commute around the city by bus. And of course, for shorter distances and to cross streets (use the stairs cut into slopes between streets as short-cuts) you must choose your two humble limbs.
