Situated at the foothills of the magnificent Dhauladhar range, is the small town of Kangra that is set by the picturesque Kangra Valley. Once ruled by the Chand Dynasty, this small town has some of the most amazing sceneries and ancient temples that attract a lot of tourists. The fastest way to reach Kangra is to take a flight to the Gaggal Airport that is very close to the town. You can also travel by train or busses that ply from nearby cities.

The closest airport is the Gaggal Airport, only 11 km away from the beautiful town of Kangra. Various metropolitan cities are well connected to Kangra by prime airlines like Air India, Indigo Airlines and Spice Jet. You can also fly to Chandigarh airport or the Delhi Airport and take a connecting flight to Gaggal Airport. If you want to go on a small road trip, you can even take a flight to either Delhi or Chandigarh and hire a rental car to drive up to your destination in Kangra.

Kangra is a very interesting hill station and is a conglomeration of various valleys and plateaus of the great Himalayas, therefore making the place highly scenic. Taking a road trip and enjoying the scenic beauty of Kangra is a great experience as you get to feast your eyes on beautiful mountains, lush greenery and dazzling lakes. If you are not in the mood to drive, you can always take a bus or a cab, that are readily available from nearby bigger cities like Delhi, Chandigarh, Dalhousie and Pathankot to Kangra. These are over night luxury busses that are comfortable and easy on the pocket as well.

Kangra has its own railway station, but it is only used as a toy train station. And is not coonected to other cities. The nearest broad gauge railway station is the Pathankot Railway station, on the Delhi Jammu Railway line and is 70 km away from the town of Kangra; it is well connected with major cities in India. Once you reach this railways station, you can rent a cab that is available right outside the station and it will take up to three hours from there onwards to reach Kangra. The train is inexpensive and is a great way to travel, especially with family and friends.

Since Kangra is a popular tourist spot, it is easy to get around the hill station. There a number of local transportation options available for the use of tourists. You can rent a cab for the entire day, which is very comfortable but might be a little expensive if you are on a budget trip. You can also use share cabs or mudrika jeeps to lower the expense. The best way to get around Kangra would be to use auto rickshaws that have a fixed rate; or you can even opt to travel by private busses or government busses that are facilitated by the HRTC.
