Ko Samui Weather And Best Time To Visit Ko Samui
Planning A Trip To Ko Samui? Here's a snapshot of Ko Samui weather and the best time to visit Ko Samui
Thailand’s beautiful Koh Samui Island has a weather which is perfect all around the year. The prominent season in Koh Samui is the summer, much of which is characterised by rainfall. However, the heavy monsoon lasts here around two months only, which is much lesser than other islands like Phuket, leaving you with enough months to plan your vacation in.
The best time to visit Koh Samui would be from January to April. Although there is an average of 27-28°C temperature in all months and the sea remains warm and comfortable throughout, these four months cover the driest time in Koh Samui. Most people prefer February because the remnant monsoon of January fades away, but it still stays cooler than March. Avoid the retreating monsoon seasons of October-November, because they are the wettest.

Spring is actually one of the best times to visit Koh Samui. It stays relatively cooler during March, and the warmth begins to be felt by around mid-April. Still the average temperature does not cross 30°C which is very good for a tropical beach location. March and April are two of the driest and sunniest months on the island, and also perfect for beach holidays. However, from around mid April, the heat really catches up and the sun might be too bright and scorching on some days.

The blazing sun continues to shine well into June and July, along with the beginning of monsoon as well. But it is not that predominant. This time of the year, Koh Samui beaches have the best weather conditions and the sea also has great visibility. This is the high season in Koh Samui, so it is suggested that you do advance booking and be ready to pay spiked prices.
Autumn (September to November)

Autumn in Koh Samui is the least favourable time to visit. From late September to November, Koh Samui is covered with heavy and torrential rain, thanks to the retreating monsoons. Tropical cyclones are also a very typical occurrence during this time, thus making the whole point of visiting a beach destination like Koh Samui pointless. While it is true that around this time you will get the best rates for hotels and flight fares, the trip might not be an ideal one.
Winter (December to February)

This is once again a high season in Koh Samui. Snorkelling or Scuba diving is restarted during this time and can be safely done after the months of clouds, thunders and heavy rain. You will be able to see whale sharks in large amounts, take long boat trips and go for kayaking. February is perhaps the driest month of all, without any risk of rain or cyclone or blazing sun. The weather of February is the best for a visit to Koh Samui.
Thailand lies between the Tropic of Cancer and Equator, which means the climate here is warm and moderately humid, and perfect for beach holidays all year long. Koh Samui poses as the perfect winter retreat, especially if you are coming from a colder country.
